Goans in Qatar shake a leg on Goa Day of Doha Goans Sports Club
Viva Goa! Viva Goa Day! Viva Rene Baretto! Viva Goenkars! Viva Goenkarponn!

For every two Goan there are three clubs, goes a popular saying which many a Goans are familiar. But one club dominating the scene is not a good thing. Monopoly is a bad thing not only in business sector but in social, cultural and sporting front, which a large number of Goans in Qatar will nod in agreement.
On Friday November 19, Qatar played host to Goa Day organized by Doha Goans Sports Club, the Goa Day, a concept coined and developed by London-based Rene Baretto.
It was the second time Goans had a chance e to witness a show called Goa Day this year. Earlier, Goan Welfare Association (GWA) had organized a Goa Day.
Why two Goa Day's for a small place like Qatar, where around 10,000 Goenkars are working.
One will have to go have flip back and forth to find out.
Doha Goans Sports Club, a social, cultural and sports club has been revived by people who broke away from GWA, to break the monopoly of the existing Goan association, whose only two activities was the mega-buck yielding dance and the Goa Day, no farther than that it was the start and end for stops.
The general people in Qatar are not complaining about the two Goa days and the two associations or clubs. They welcome it. So are the artists like Merywn Ferrao, Roseferns and Thedearo, all performed at both the Goa Day shows held at two different places at two different times.
Hats off to the artists who literally took the crowd back to Goa and the festival and traditions which identify with Goa.
And, a tap in the back for the persons who worked with the tiny tots and the artists burning the midnight light lamp to bring the show to the Goenkars.
The organizers need a word of praise who made the day memorable and promised to bring many more shows, events and activities in the near future.
A word on the youngsters who came for the show, it was a pity they could not understand a word of it for many of them. But it was worth an effort on the part of the parents to drag them for the show.
So the next time the organizers should ensure that there are enough translators for the young ones to have grasp of what they had watched and carry home something with them, which they can remember and related them on another ten to 20 years time to their kids or to their juniors.
Viva Goa! Viva Goa Day! Viva Rene Baretto! Viva Goenkars! Viva Goenkarponn!
