A day in a desert
A day in a desert
Waking up and seeing the same things day in and day out is
something most people hate. To change the monotonous lifestyle, we ventured out
of the confines of our home and took a long ride to the desert.
The moment we utter the word desert, people not familiar
with the hot desert associate with sand storms and as a barren land, bereft of
any vegetation. It is not the case; in fact, many plants and animals have
evolved special ways to survive the harsh environment.
Besides patches of greenery, the desert has many interesting
to offer on its platter. Only when you come closer you experience the thrills
and salient features of the desert.
For me, the desert safari was getting closer to the
environment and getting to know the flora and fauna of the region.
After driving around 80 kms we were at our destination and
it was time to set up the tent. As we reached our destination, the sun was
rising and with it the temperature.
The first thing we got as a welcome drink from our kind
Qatari host was Arabic tea, we sipped it quickly and went about our task of
exploring the other parts of the desert life.
The sand and the sand dunes had its own unique features, and
we some young children and adults alike indulging in Desert Buggy jumping over
the sand dunes. We took experienced the thrills although we were a bit nervous
and frighten but got over our initial fright as time passed up.
Having drained ourselves with the tiring motor sports on the
sand dunes, it was time to add some calories. The barbecue was getting ready
and the same of fish and meat burning over charcoal was racing our taste buds
at jet ski speed to have a bit of all it.
When the time came to have our share of the barbecue, it was
time to take some camel rides on the sand dunes.
The camel ride drained physically and we were thirsty and it
was time to search for some water source locally as the water we carried got
over.
So, we came across oasis, it is that spot of fertile land
where water is found. We found some date palm trees surrounding the oasis.
There was lot of other vegetation around the water source. People living around
the oasis grew lot of vegetables and fruits.
