After waiting for a few years, the World Cup in Qatar presented him with the perfect platform to try out a few things from cuisine to the local dresses. Taking the adage, a step further, Vishal and his friends all Portugal supporters bought a Ghutra and Igal at Souq Waqif with traditional colours of green and red, a popular traditional market and after some expert help from the shop assistants managed to wear the Ghutra and Igal, the headgear which along with Thobe, the long full garment is one of the traditional dress of men in the Arabic world especially in the Middle East countries.   Goa Mavericks Sports Club to organize hockey tournament for veterans at Peddem on May 11   Goa Mavericks Sports Club will organize a six-a-side Instant Hockey Tournament for registered clubs at Peddem practice Astro turf grounds Mapusa on 11th May 2024. The tournament is open for 40plus players, with those born on or before 01.01.1984a re eligible to take part, the only exception being goal keepers, who may be of any age boys /Men or girls/women. Each team shall comprise of 5 players and one Goalkeeper on the field and 3 substitutes i.e a total of 9 players in each team. The entry fee is 1000/- per team. The last date for receiving entries is today 4th May 2024. The Tournament shall be played under floodlights the timings will be known to the teams shortly. Levino coached the Goa State team for seven years.   Former India footballer Levino Dias was named Sportstar Hero Unsung Champion at the Focus Goa Sportstar Conclave on Friday. Honourable Sports Minister of Goa, Shri Govind Gaude, gave the award to Levino.   Levino was a formidable midfielder who represented Goa in the National Championship for the Santosh Trophy. He played for various clubs in the Goa First Division, which was the top football league in the state at that time. There are just a handful of artisans remaining in some villages who mainly make baskets from cane. The Jadhav’s and Mane’s of Cuncolim are the select few who can be seen selling bamboo baskets by the road side in Cuncolim town in Salcete. They live close to the road national Highway No.66 commonly referred to as NH 66 (erstwhile NH-17 and a part of NH-47). Even though there is a good market for these products, there are not many artisans or basket weavers in Goa. Goan artisans make a variety of baskets of all shapes and sizes. Mostly made of cane and bamboo, these baskets are in huge demand. Traditionally, the Mhar community makes bamboo products that are used by people for functional purposes in various walks of life.
